1. Know your user context

a. Who (target audience, someone using VUI),
b. Location (home, public place, work)
c. Emotional state(hurry/ tired)
d. Paint points(issues with existing system)

2. Storyboarding

For the above context create a storyboard of the user & the Machine using sticky notes. Map out the script with sticky notes. Example storyboard by Greg Nudelman

or using online tool storyboardthat

3. List machine commands

Take a list of commands of the Machine from the storyboard created from step 2.

4. Testing & record user testing

Ben Sauer has written great article on Test Your Voice App Idea in Less Than An Hour
Follow 1hour VUI test steps by Ben Sauer

Use mobile for audio recording to record user testing. So that you can use after post analysis.

5. Analysis

Analyse the recordings, list out what commands work, what doesn’t work. So that you can use it for high fidelity prototyping.
