Bern: THE MOVIE will tell the story of Bernie Sanders’ life growing up, the historic campaign currently taking place, and the people working to get him elected. We have a unique opportunity to capture a pivotal moment in American culture and its impact on the country’s political and social landscape.
We are independent filmmakers, producers, animators, editors, writers and other creative and communications professionals who are interested in adding dimension to the current political discourse by learning more about one of the most intriguing participants of the 2016 presidential election. As an independent collective, we are beholden only to the story we are telling, and we are committed to discovering and telling it as authentically as possible.
Who exactly is “we”?
The people behind this film are people just like you, who want to know more about “Bernie Sanders, The Man” because it informs who “Bernie Sanders, The Candidate” is. We are independent filmmakers, producers, animators, editors, writers and other creative and communications professionals who are interested in adding dimension to the current political discourse by learning more about one of the most intriguing participants of the 2016 presidential election. Are you affiliated with the Bernie Sanders Campaign?
Nope. We are (see above) just a group of people who happen to be in the creative arts and who happen to be thinking what a lot of other people are thinking: “This Bernie guy’s got some interesting ideas… But I’d sure love to know the who/what/when/where on how he became this person who’s standing up in front of the whole country, asking for my vote.” So we’re launching a crowd-funded documentary that will go out and ask people (you, me, neighbors, co-workers, campaign volunteers, Bernie’s old high school pals, folks on the street) what they know about Bernie and what they wish they knew. We’re also going to take a good hard look back on his political career and his personal path to try and figure out what’s shaped him.
How can I participate?
#1 — Tell us what you want to know about Bernie Sanders. Sign up to our email list and fill out the Bernie Questionnaire. It takes just a few minutes to tell us what you want to know about Bernie Sanders. The responses we receive will become the blueprint for our filming as we go out and interview people in, around and outside Bernie’s campaign as well as in his life to get those questions answered.
#2 — Help us get the word out. As an official “Bern: THE MOVIE-goer”, you’ll be on the front-line of our fundraising effort, helping us connect to people who want to be a part of this project and its mission.

Why not just Google the guy and call it a day?
Because there’s more to this man’s story (and any person’s story, for that matter) than even Google can illuminate. And we think this is a unique time in American politics and that we have a chance to see it through the lens of someone who’s been writing his own script inside this political machine for a very long time, perplexing some, perturbing others but seemingly always playing by his own rule book. We have a very ambitious production timeline because we want this film completed and out to the public by the end of May. But truth be told, our motivation for doing this project is not mitigated by the outcome of the election because we believe that what Bernie Sanders is doing for the political and social landscape of America goes beyond just the 2016 presidential race. We believe the Bernie Sanders story is a story about what’s right — and what’s wrong — with our current political system, in practice if not in principle. And we have an opportunity to share that story with audiences of every stripe, on either side of the aisle, whether they are politically active or fed-up with all the noxious rhetoric. Our goal is to start a real conversation about what we the people want our country to look like, for us and for all future generations.
When and how will “Bern: The Movie” be released?
Because at its heart this is a film for us as American voters, we feel it needs to be brought to life by us as American voters. That’s why it will be funded via KickStarter and then distributed free-of-charge online and via major torrent websites. Any profits from the film will be donated equally to these not-for-profit organizations that exist to protect voter access and voter rights:
