Why should you trust other people’s recommendations?
Who really cares what other people think?
The bigger question is — why ask anyone’s opinion on anything? You are your own person and you can choose for yourself what you like and what you don’t.
We are social beings — we talk to people, so every day we hear what someone did, what they didn’t do, went, ate, drank and if they liked it or not. Sometimes it sounds so good, you want to try it for yourself.
You don’t even have to know them personally — you see celebs on TV talking about where they vacation, food critics excited about last night’s dinner, a model selling pretty shoes. It all looks good to you, so you take the first step.
You try it out for the first time and it can go one of two ways. Either the restaurant Johnny suggested was great, so you feel you can trust Johnny again. Or it stank and you move on to someone else.
It’s all about relationship building, with friends, jounalists, bloggers, locals. If you trusted them the first time, you are bound to trust them again. Ex. On my blog, I wrote about how great Koh Lanta, Thailand is and suggested you book the Layana Hotel. You try it and it was fabulous, so you come back again to try another thing I suggest, and so one and so one.
There’s also the additional fact that you can’t know everything. Every week, newspapers, magazines and blogs are writing about more and more destinations…way too many for anyone to ever see. Most probably you never even heard of some of them. The media opens your mind to traveling to and eating in places you would never have found yourself.
Of course, you need to be smart and not trust all of the people all of the time, but, on the whole, most recommenders want you to have as good an experience as they had!
So trust away and cross your fingers, you’re asking the right person!
I hope you liked this! A few ❤ below would be much appreciated!
