Abe and his co-founder Evan wanted to work at an organization that was making a difference and interested in more than profit margins. In April 2012, Abe and Evan launched Rework, which matches mission-driven talent to the world’s most socially innovative organizations. Last year, Outside Magazine recognized ReWork as one of the ‘Top 100 Places to Work.’ ReWork is a B Corp certified business and a champion of ‘Best for NYC.’

What Matters Most to Us

“We believe that no one should have to choose between making money and making a difference.”

What We Learned

“As a business leader, there is so much pressure to make a profit and there are so many things that never pop up. For example, we only have one married employee and have not even thought about paid maternity/paternity leave. The [B Impact] assessment forces you to think about these things and detail governance policies you haven’t encountered yet.”

What We Did As a Result

“We try to think creatively about how we support our staff with benefits that don’t break the bank. We provide top health insurance. We offer unlimited sick days. All staff are offered 4 weeks paid vacation and 4 weeks of remote work. Our thinking is, if you give unlimited sick days, people will not abuse that and abide by the honor system. On the other hand, if you offer unlimited vacation, people won’t use those days. Last year, everybody used at least 3 weeks… which was awesome and so important to the wellbeing of our staff.”

Features/Improvements We Are Looking Forward To

“Going through the assessment process really helps us be forward-thinking. We currently are subletting an office at the Impact Hub. But when we eventually outgrow the HUB, we have begun to not only think about how we want to set up our next office, but all of the impact-related items that go into maintaining your own office space. Having a template to work off really will help.”
