As we moved into the final leg of our month-long road trip, we rolled into Nashville eager to see some old friends from our time in NYC. They welcomed us that evening with a satisfying and delicious take-out meal from a local Italian place. As the kids played, we dined on pasta and salad, drank red wine and did a lot of catching up.

The next day was Sunday. After a steamy jog around a beautiful local park, we visited a church run by a pastor we used to know in New York where our friend Ginny Owens was the musical guest. Her lilting, lovely voice filled the rafters as white, puffy clouds floated past the large, picture windows.

After the service, we were all hungry for lunch. Ginny suggested Sopapilla’s, a New Mexican-influenced restaurant in the nearby suburb of Franklin. Since we’d just been in Santa Fe but didn’t have time to stay for lunch, we enthusiastically agreed with her choice. Fresh ingredients, a lively brunch crowd, and many things to talk about made for a wonderful meal. The table crafted guacamole was particularly excellent; the mahi tacos were out of this world. Everything was fresh, and made with care. If you’re in Nashville and feel like a quick jaunt out of town to Franklin and the surrounding horse country, by all means consider a stop in at Sopapilla’s.

Our next two stops were with family, both in Greenville, SC and Richmond, VA. Even after all of the incredible meals we had on the road, casual dinners with family are one of the great things in life. Suffice to say, there’s nothing like a home cooked meal with those you care about!
