Here are our favorite hikes launching from San Francisco, especially if you're taking your dogs with you.

  1. Ridge Trail at SF’s Presidio

Difficulty: Very Easy

Length: 7 Miles

Getting There: Find the trail to the right of the Presidio Golf Course and Clubhouse parking lot off Arguello Boulevard in San Francisco.

The Ridge Trail trail is more a, well, trail than a hike but the goal of a hike is to get outside right? Well, the Ridge Trail offers beautiful scenery and tons of birds if you’re into bird watching. If your dog chases birds this might not be the hike for you… if you still go be sure to give them the energy they need.

2. Marin Headlands: Hawk Hill

Difficulty: Easy

Length: 1.6 Miles

Getting There: Get there by taking the scenic Conzelman Road. Hawk Hill comes up quickly at a large tunnel in the hillside. Park in front and make your way through the tunnel until you come out the other end, then take the trail up to the peak.

No list of the best hikes in SF is complete without Hawk Hill, one of the best lookout points in the city. From the top you’ll have 360-degree views with a view of the Golden Gate Bridge and The Headlands. This is a must-do, and you can’t call yourself a San Franciscan until you’ve done it.

3. San Bruno Mountain Summit Loop

Difficulty: Medium

Length: 3.5 Miles

Getting There: Go to the San Bruno State park and follow Guadalupe Canyon Parkway until you find the turnoff to the trailhead.

San Bruno Mountain is a 3.5-mile loop trail located near Brisbane, California that features beautiful wildflowers and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. We recommend this hike for those traveling in a group with varying hiking skills as it’s harder than the average SF hike but still offers a bit of a challenge for the more seasoned hiker.

Hopefully, you and your dogs enjoy these hikes as much as we do! And don’t forget to grab your Trail Treats packs on the way out the door. They are the only treat packs in biodegradable treat packs are made to keep your pockets crumb-free. Not to mention they are organic and non-GMO to keep your dog happy and healthy.
