Angela Rudolph: Not your typical 10-year-old
Angela is only 10-years-old, but double digits don’t stop her from making a major (think: raising thousands of dollars) impact to support global education.
Think back to when you were 10-years-old. Just starting middle school, excited about reaching double digits and entering that vague category of being called a “preteen.” You probably spent much of your time thinking about your friends and after school activities.
Likely though, you didn’t spend much time considering the implications that a lack of education has on children your own age in developing countries. Angela Rudolph is certainly an exception. From a small town in rural Victoria, Australia, this 10-year-old has set her goals on building a school in Laos to bring education to kids just like her.
“You can do big things, even if you’re small!” — Angela
One evening around their kitchen counter, as they were preparing dinner together, Angela’s mother told her about Pencils of Promise; the issue of 250 million children who can’t read or write struck a chord. Why shouldn’t other kids her age be able to go school, something Angela herself loves to do.
That’s when she decided she wanted to raise $25k to build a school with PoP. This goal is no easy feat for anyone, let alone a young girl who has school, homework, friends and after school programs to balance in addition to planning fundraising events but, unsurprisingly, Angela is already more than halfway to her goal! From hosting trivia nights to street BBQs, yoga days and golf dinner events, Angela is doing everything that she can to help provide education to kids around the world.
The issue of international education means everything to Angela, and she can’t imagine a world where she couldn’t go to school to study her favorite subjects: Chinese, global studies, writing and reading.
Angela loves 4-square and recess, performs in school concerts and enjoys a good movie day, but she also driven with a passion for change that not many people can boast of having at her age. With the vivacity and perseverance that would make any parent proud, Angela is pushing her way forward, thinking up new creative ideas to raise money to fund a school in Laos. We’re proud to have supporters like Angela — she’s already made a huge impact and we’re excited to see where she goes from here.
