Method #2. Download Songs from Spotify for Free

Before getting to the heart of this tutorial and explaining how to download songs from Spotify, it is necessary to make a necessary premise regarding the Download function of the famous music streaming service and the contents that can be downloaded with a free account.

The Spotify Download function allows you to download individual songs, playlists, albums and podcasts to your device, allowing you to listen to them even in offline mode, both when an Internet connection is not available and when the Offline option is manually activated from the application settings .

If you are wondering if it is possible to download songs from Spotify for free, you should know that the free version of the music streaming service does not allow you to download either single songs or playlists and albums. With a free account it is possible to download and listen to podcasts offline only, and exclusively from smartphones and tablets.

To download songs, playlists and albums and listen to them without an Internet connection, you need to activate a Spotify Premium subscription starting from 9.99 euros / month (or 4.99 euros / month for Spotify Premium Student, for students only) with free trial 1 to 3 months, depending on the chosen subscription and any active promotions.

I point out, however, that even in the paid version of Spotify there are some limitations relating to the download of songs. In fact, it is allowed to download songs on up to 5 different devices and it is necessary to connect to Spotify at least once every 30 days in order not to lose the downloaded music and podcasts. Having clarified this, let’s see how to proceed.

How to Download Songs from Spotify with Premium

As mentioned in the opening lines of this guide, to download songs from Spotify you need to have activated a Spotify Premium subscription: by doing so, you can download single songs, albums, playlists and podcasts and start playing them even when one is not available. Internet connection. Find everything explained in detail right below.

How to Download Songs from Spotify on Android and iPhone

To download songs from Spotify on Android and iPhone, take your device, start the Spotify app (available for Android, also on alternative stores, and iOS / iPadOS) by tapping on its icon and, if you haven’t already done so, log in to your account by choosing an access mode between Use Facebook, Continue with Google and Continue with Apple if, respectively, you have registered using your Facebook account, a Google account or your Apple ID. If, on the other hand, you have created a Spotify account via email, select the Login option, enter your details in the Email address or username and Password fields and tap the Login button to log in.

At this point, to download a specific album on Spotify, press the Search item in the bottom menu, type the title of the album of your interest in the Artists, songs or podcasts field and, in the search results, tap on the name of the album you intend to download. In the new screen that appears, tap the down arrow icon and wait for all the songs contained in the chosen album to be downloaded.

Similarly, you can also proceed to download playlists and podcasts. It is not possible, however, to download a single song directly: to do this, you can create a playlist or, more simply, add the song in question to your favorites.

In the first case, tap on the Search item located in the bottom menu and search for the song of your interest by its title or artist name. Once you have identified the song you want to download, tap on its three dots icon, select the Add to playlist option and, in the new screen displayed, tap on the New playlist button to create a new playlist to dedicate to the songs to download.

Then enter the name of the playlist in the appropriate field (eg Download) and tap the Create button to create a playlist on Spotify. At this point, press the down arrow icon to download the song in question. To download other songs, all you have to do is identify the songs of your interest and add them to the playlist you just created: all the new songs added will be downloaded automatically.

If you want to avoid creating a new playlist dedicated to the songs to download, you can add the songs of your interest to the Favorite songs section of your account and, subsequently, activate the download of the latter. Also in this case, after searching for the song to download, press on the relative icon of the three dots and select the Like option from the menu that opens.

Once this is done, tap on the item Your library in the bottom menu, access the Favorite songs section and move the lever next to the Download item from OFF to ON, to start downloading all the songs you have previously added to this list.

To listen to downloaded songs when you don’t have an available Internet connection or when you decide to activate offline mode from your account settings, launch the Spotify app and, on the main screen, you should see the Downloaded Music section. Then press on the album, playlist, podcast of your interest to start playing it.

If, on the other hand, you have downloaded single songs by adding them to the Favorite Songs section, tap on the Songs you like item (alternatively, select the option Your library in the menu below and choose the Favorite Songs item) and tap on the title of the song you intend to listen to.

How do you say? Do you want to remove content that you have previously downloaded? To delete an album, playlist or podcast, go to the Downloaded Music section, press on the content of your interest and tap the down arrow icon. Then select the Remove option and that’s it.

If, on the other hand, you intend to disable the Download option for your favorite songs, all you have to do is access the Your library section, press the Favorite songs item and move the lever next to the Download done option from ON to OFF.

How to Download Songs from Spotify to PC

If your intention is to download songs from Spotify to PC, you must know that you can only do it using the official application of the service for Windows and macOS and only for playlists (including those created by other users), so not for albums or singles tracks.

That said, to download a playlist created by you, start Spotify on your computer and, if you are not logged in to your account yet, click on the Login button. Enter your details in the Email address or username and Password fields and press the Login button again to login. If, on the other hand, you have signed up for Spotify using your Facebook account, click on the Log in with Facebook option.

Now, locate the Playlist section in the left sidebar, click on the playlist of your interest and, in the new screen displayed, move the lever next to the Download item from OFF to ON, to download all the songs contained in the playlist in question. Alternatively, click on your name, at the top right, select the Public Playlists tab and locate the playlist you want to download. Then click on the relative icon of the three dots and select the Download option from the menu that opens.

The procedure for downloading a playlist on Spotify created by other users or automatically generated by Spotify is almost identical to what I just indicated for downloading a playlist created by you. All you have to do is search for and access the playlist of your interest, click on the three dots icon and select the Save to Your Library option. Once this is done, move the toggle next to the Download option from OFF to ON and that’s it.

Please note that even from a computer, you can download specific songs by adding them to the list of your favorite songs. To do this, search for the song of your interest by entering its title in the Search field (at the top) and, in the search results, right-click on the preview image of the song in question.

Then select the option Save to your favorite songs and click on the Favorite songs option visible in the sidebar on the left. At this point, move the toggle next to the Download option from OFF to ON to download all the songs you like.

When you don’t have an Internet connection available or decide to manually activate Spotify’s Offline mode, you can play the downloaded songs by going to the Favorite Songs section. If, on the other hand, you have downloaded playlists, locate the Playlists section in the left sidebar and click on the playlists you downloaded previously (they are identified by the down arrow icon).

To delete the downloaded content, instead, access the Favorite songs section or the playlist you want to remove from downloads and move the lever next to the Download done option from ON to OFF. Simple, right?
