Who killed Edward Worthington lll? That was the question. The audience snickers as Nathen Holder as Lieutenant James McMillan, leaped over the tape on the hardwood floor in the shape of a body.

“Who thinks it was Beatrice Worthington?” he asked as he glided to the left side of the couch where the elderly woman with a flowy, red flowery dress sat.

Six members of the audience stand.

“Who would like to ask Ms. Beatrice a question?”

Holder raised his right hand and motioned towards the stands. The interrogation was conducted by the members of the audience attending Bethel University’s Black Box Theatre Production, “The Plot, Like Gravy, Thickens,” Friday, April 19, at 7:30 p.m.

Last night was an interactive production, the cast was handing off props, asking questions and talking directly to the audience. They were vigilant at staying in character and portraying the emotions to allow the audience to connect.

Freshman Tia Eiden, who had been asking questions, standing when instructed and laughing along with the other audience members said,

“I loved the play. Every actor did wonderfully portraying their unique character, and all the audience participation was so fun. There were laughs and gasps from the audience. It was easy to tell that everyone was enjoying the production.”

The stands in the theater shook with laughter.

“Pulling everything together. We have all been busy individuals throughout the course of this semester, so bringing everything together as the deadline drew closer was nothing short of exciting,” music performance major Malachi Fox said. “I also found the audience to be truly fulfilling and hearing their reactions to our comedy onstage was so rewarding.”

The production will be shown again April 20-April 22 at 7:30 p.m.
