Sophomore Travis Lamecker studies in the BC on Thursday afternoon for one of his nursing exams. He loves reflecting on the year and all of the hard work that he’s put in. “I can’t wait to become a nurse and be able to help people one day,” says Lamecker. | Photo by Savannah Lasley

Sophomore Travis Lamecker counts the days until he says “I do”

Travis Lamecker’s iPhone chimed wedding bells as a picture of his soon-to-be-bride popped up with a pairing text. Her wavy, shoulder-length, dark brown hair blew in the wind and her light brown and sparkly eyes gazed back at him. Just 68 more days, he whispered to himself. He shook his head. Focus. I have a test tomorrow in pharmacology and I need to do well.

Nursing major Travis Lamecker proposed to his fiancé, Kelsey Rothers Sept. 11 at Willow River State Park in Wisconsin.

“She rejected me when I first admitted that I liked her and she responded by saying that ‘nothing would ever happen between us” states Lamecker.

About a month later they shared their first date at Pizza Hut and many new memories came after that: star gazing, ice-skating on Sunday nights and taking trips to their local coffee shop, Lulu Beans.

“I’m just excited to show her love every day.” — Travis Lamecker, sophomore

At 17, Lamecker knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Rothers and three years later they are picking out pink peonies for the guests’ tables and trying to choose a song for their first reception dance.

“I’m just excited to show her love every day,” Lamecker said with a grin.

Lamecker falls into a day dream of when he was putting a corsage on Rother’s wrist, star-struck by her mint-green strapless prom dress. Soon, July 2 he will watch his bride walk down the aisle to “Multiplied” by NeedtoBreath. At last, his ringtone will become his reality.
