Dancing it out

Finals week woes.

During my junior year of high school, my first year of PSEO and my first real finals week, I sat at my kitchen table with my best friend Caitlin. We sat staring at the papers — the test study guides and textbooks — all due in the next week.

“I can’t do this,” Caitlin said, both laughing slightly and on the verge of tears. “How are we expected to do all this??”

I immediately started panicking, but trying to stay calm for my best friend’s sake.

“No, no. It’s okay! We can do this! We’ll just take it one assignment at a time. It’ll be fine,” I stammered.

Then I had an idea that was stupid but awesome: “Caitlin. We need to dance it out.”

She immediately looked confused but then frantically started nodding her head.

“Yes,” she yelled, rising from her chair. “Like Grey’s Anatomy. We need to be Meredith and Christina. We need to dance it out!”

With that, I pulled up Spotify, threw on “The Who” and Caitlin and I spastically danced around my kitchen table.

Since my first finals week in 2013, at least one moment during every finals week has brought stress and anxiety boiling up to impossible heights. If you can relate, or should this happen to you with finals right around the corner, I suggest doing one thing and one thing only: Dance it out.
