Pitchside picnics — cricket at its coolest
Elite level sport meets entry level hospitality
Lewis from the commercial team on why you can’t beat exclusive bar service right on the boundary…
Cricket in the Summertime is as English as tea and traffic jams, with the same fan types shown in TV and press shots every year.
There are the drinking, singing groups of lads enjoying the sun as much as the sport, then the blazer and tie gents savouring the shaded hospitality.
But things aren’t as simple and stereotypical as that — plenty of people love a relaxed celebratory atmosphere as well as the little ‘extra value’ touches.
That’s why we launched our first Thomas Cook Sport Terrace at Lancashire CC’s Emirates Old Trafford ground.
To offer a special experience to fans who aren’t too worried about being seen as special.
Pitchside or grandstand — no need to choose
After a welcome with a complimentary drink, you’ll gain access to an open plan area right behind the ropes.
This exclusive section incorporates informal benching, inflatable sofas, parasols, a dedicated bar and some of the best views in the ground.
Some get there early to snare a sofa, others prefer to stand and socialise with a friend or two and a drink or three.
Access also includes a gourmet picnic lunch and a numbered grandstand seat, for the option of a traditional spectator experience.
A full day’s test play might be a long time in the sun for some, so take the weight off with an hour in your own selected seat.
But for a few furious hours of T20 action, a boundary rope beer garden might be the perfect standpoint.
There’s no need to worry about rigid formality — sit/stand where you like, with who you like, wear what you want, drink what you want.
Any fan likes free food and beverages, flexible seating options and wicket action at eye level — but you’ll love the stuff we don’t include.
By eliminating the fuss of things like dress codes, lengthy queue times and restricted views we open up cricket hospitality to everyone.
Terrace experiences near you
The appeal seems obvious now, which is why its success at Lancashire’s Old Trafford led to further Sport Terraces in London and Leicester.
This summer, you can enjoy this unique concept with old friends and make new ones while taking in spectacles such as:
- Natwest T20 Blast matches at Leicestershire’s Fischer County Ground
- Lancs Lightning Vs Yorks Vikings at Emirates Old Trafford
- England Vs West Indies ODI matches at Old Trafford and London’s Kia Oval
- England Vs SA decisive 3rd and 4th tests at Old Trafford and Kia Oval
It’s the best way to watch the best cricket in England this year, whichever match you go for — just remember your suncream and singing voice.
