The more things change, the more they actually stay the same. The SEC will have at least one representative in the National Championship game for the 7th straight year, Alabama is here for the 6th time since the CFP began back in the 2014 season and this marks Georgia’s 2nd appearance in 5 years. These two met in the SEC Championship Game where Georgia was a big favorite and led to Alabama taking it personally. The Tide dominated the game for the last 3 quarters and let the football world know, they’re still top dog. UGA subsequently used that as motivation to absolutely destroy my Michigan squad in the semi-finals leading to this rematch which contains a number of different storylines all coming to a head on the biggest stage.

The Bulldogs are small favorites but I’m actually surprised this line isn’t closer to a pick ’em considering their most recent affair. Betting against Bama, especially as an underdog isn’t advisable especially when all the chips are on the table but this Georgia team is damn good. They proved the post SEC Title game narratives wrong during their dismantling of Michigan and have had a couple weeks to prep for this huge rematch. Alabama has sustained injuries not only to the receiving corps but their O-line is banged up and although their defense is still among the nations best, it isn’t quite traditional Crimson level. Since I’m here to make a pick I will, and against my own advice, I’m rolling with Georgia tonight as they exercise their demons this year and help Kirby Smart defeat Nick Saban for the first time. As a Michigan fan it would be nice to know we lost to the eventual National Champ, but also see a school win their first Title in over 40 years. Give me Georgia ML -140
