Minnesota T-Wolves at New York Knicks: Broadway Flop
If only the Knicks were as consistent on the court as I’ve been in picking their games. New York’s win in Atlanta on Saturday marked the third straight win for them and my third consecutive winner on a Knicks matchup. Of course they followed up their first perfect week in over 2 months with a stinker at home against Charlotte yesterday continuing a season of inconsistency. Tonight Minnesota visits the Garden and this time around, the T-Wolves pack is at full strength.
Back in late December these two met in Minnesota where the T-Wolves were on the back half of a back to back and without KAT, Edwards, and Russell which led to a Knicks 96–88 win. All those dudes are back for the T-Wolves and they’ve won 5 of their last 7 games including an impressive 20 point win against the Warriors. This time around it’s the Knicks who are dealing with player absences and coming off a game the previous day which in New York’s case, happened to be a loss. One interesting tidbit which fogs tonight’s pick is that over the previous five back to back’s New York has played this year, they’ve split or won both games all five times.
Breaking these teams down making this even more difficult to bet is their similarities. They both struggle shooting (Min: 24th, NYK: 25th in FG%) while both play decent to good defense, ranking 11th or better in overall FG% allowed. The one area where there is a clear advantage and which could tell the story of tonight’s game is the 3Pt line. It’s here where the T-Wolves are making just 34% (22nd) but lead the league averaging 42 attempts/gm, while the Knicks give up 37 3PA/gm and 35% (15th) from beyond the arc. Taking all this into account, I can’t help but think my Knicks are destined to lose for a second straight night at the Garden. I’ve shown my fanhood won’t get in the way at the window and am proving that once again by going with Minnesota ML -150 tonight against my Knicks. I also kind of like this game to be a little ugly so give me Under 214 as well just for the hell of it.
