The 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, is the spiritual leader of Tibet. He is the winner of the 1992 Nobel Peace Prize and one of the most prominent faces of Buddhism whose teachings have been heard worldwide.

All of the Dalai Lamas are thought to be manifestations of the bodhisattva of compassion, Avalokitesvara. Mahayana Buddhists believe bodhisattvas choose to be reborn to experience the world’s suffering and help people attain enlightenment.

After the death of the 13th Dalai Lama, the search for the next one began. His closest disciples identified signs and interpreted visions. Later, they arrived at the house of 2-year Lhamo Dhondup. After rigorous tests, the disciples decided that he was the reincarnation of the previous Dalai Lama.

I’m not a Buddhist, and I was raised a catholic, but I left it because I couldn’t connect with the Christian doctrines. On the other hand, I’ve found that Buddhist teachings offer a more down-to-earth and practical way to live a better life than Christianity does.
