It’s human nature to have the desire to connect with one another. Even the most introverted people need at least some, albeit often minimal, human interaction — allowing us to communicate emotions, ideas, and thoughts on a deeper level.

Venting after a tough breakup brings moments of profound sadness, while celebrating an accomplishment brings tears of joy. Interacting with one another is what makes us human.

While the need for human interaction is entirely normal, when we start to seek validation, often in the form of acceptance, things begin to become problematic.

Your desire to be accepted by others will eventually lead you to change who you’re fundamentally, and over time, the unique version of you gets replaced with what others want to see.

You lose your identity.

As a result, you’ll be unable to genuinely feel emotions like joy or happiness because you’re not pursuing passions that are unique to you but instead, you’re chasing things to make others happy.

Validation, though, is never fulfilling. The desire to obtain external validation will leave you empty…
