Espresso Martini
This is one of the easiest, and yet most impressive cocktails to make at home. Many recipes add sugar syrup, but I prefer without as there is plenty of sweetness already from the coffee liqueur.
Equipment:
- Cocktail shaker
- Strainer
Ingredients:
- Ice
- 1 part espresso (ideally already chilled) — you can use a good quality instant coffee if you don’t have an espresso machine. Use 1 heaped teaspoon in 50ml boiling water
- 1 part vodka
- 2 parts coffee liqueur, e.g. Kahlua or Tia Maria
- Coffee beans for garnish
The quantities depend on how many you are making, how big your cocktail shaker is and how big the glasses are.
I always used to make these in martini glasses, but now I prefer a coupe glass instead, as shown in the photo above. The photo below shows the difference, the martini glass being on the left.
If the espresso is hot, try to cool it as much as possible before adding to the cocktail shaker, otherwise there will be large scale melting of the ice and this will dilute the…
