Vaccine Data CoLab is excited to announce our next phase of work, starting with two countries in Africa and one grant in South East Asia. Beginning immediately, we’ll be producing vaccine data landscape country reports, convening key local multi-sector stakeholders to agree priorities, and funding a portfolio of grants in two ‘lead countries’, collaborating with key local partners: Dev Afrique in Nigeria and Infectious Disease Institute, Makerere University (IDI) in Uganda.

The Better Futures Vaccine Data CoLab is funded by UKaid.

Ridwan Sorunke, Advisor, Dev-Afrique said:

“Hyperlocal data is still largely under-explored in Nigeria despite many opportunities to scale the use of this form of data for effective decision making within the vaccine value chain. At Dev-Afrique, we are eager to work with the Vaccine Data CoLab to test new ways of working with hyperlocal data and explore effective and impactful means of achieving improved vaccine uptake and efficiency”

On working in Uganda, Brian Kawere Boneventure, Regional Mechanisms Coordinator, Infectious Disease Institute said:

“Vaccine Data CoLab seeks to bridge an eminent gap; effective data utilization for decision-making at all levels of influence in immunization programming. We are, without a doubt, proud to contribute towards this achievement”.

Alongside work in Nigeria and Uganda, we’ll be awarding a grant to the Behavioural Insights Team in Indonesia, which will act as an exploratory country, co-delivering work with local partners Aisyiyah, and Tulodo. Alexander Clark, the Principal Advisor for international programs in BIT Asia-Pacific, said:

“Amidst growing recognition that effective behaviour change must be informed by a combination of local context, the right data, behavioural science and rigorous evaluation, it is great to be a part of this project and take a sophisticated approach to vaccine uptake.”

Across all three countries, we’ll be using behaviour change approaches and hyperlocal data to address vaccine uptake and access in those three countries. Kelly Church, CoLab Data Lead said about the new partners:

“Bringing such rich local experience into the Vaccine Data CoLab will be essential to its success on the ground and globally. Having local experience and expertise is a key part of the CoLab approach, so we look forward to learning together as we collaborate”.

In January 2023, we’re hosting a workshop in Nigeria and Uganda, bringing together decision makers from across different sectors to agree priority areas to improve data systems for vaccine uptake. Over the next few months, we’ll be sharing our learnings from each country.
