The Oxygen CoLab, funded by UK International Development, has spent the last three years working with partners from around the world to accelerate global access to oxygen in low-resource-settings. One key pillar of this work has been Product Innovation, where we have been working with partners to create fit for purpose oxygen concentrators for low-resource-settings.

You can read about our work to date here, supporting the development of a Target Product Profile (TPP) and providing catalytic R&D funding to manufacturers focussed on that TPP and Unicef’s Advanced Purchase Commitment.

Work is still very much underway to bring that next generation of products to life and to get them into the low-resource-settings, but we at the CoLab want to make sure that we are looking towards the next horizon too.

Today we are launching our Innovator Engagement — an exploration with health tech sector experts and particularly innovators working on oxygen concentrators and related products.

Through conversations, and this survey, we hope to understand what the next generation of innovative Oxygen Concentrators and supporting devices might look like, and how we might best be able to support them.

From our conversations and networks we know that there is amazing work being undertaken focussed across four broad areas:

  1. Innovative Oxygen Concentrators
  2. Storage, Filling Stations and Related Systems*
  3. Components and Accessories*
  4. Monitoring Systems*

*With a specific focus on Oxygen Concentrators.

We understand that we as a CoLab might be able to support in a few different ways:

Financial Support

  • Catalytic grant funding of up to £100k to support research and development

Non-Financial Support

  • Connecting innovators with end-users and technical personnel,e.g. health professionals/BMETs in partner hospitals.
  • Oxygen-as-a-service implementing partners who can share more about most common failures to inform research & development.
  • Providing independent technical support and consultation to help with innovation.
  • Convening innovators to help work through problems collaboratively.

If you or your team are working on a product or project across one of these four areas, we would love to hear about your innovation and how best we might be able to support you.

If this is of interest to you, please complete this quick survey.

We’ll get back to you to hear more about your work! It will take just a few minutes to answer and includes questions about:

  • You and your organisation
  • The innovation, its focus and likely timeline
  • How we might be able to best support your innovation

Rest assured none of your unique data will be shared publicly and we will not ask for huge amounts of technical detail, just some high level information.

This project is funded with UK International Development from the UK government.
