Unified Theory of Productivity
When fat making apps collide with focussing at your desk
The Your App Makes Me Fat theory conflicts heavily with all the great productivity posts out there.
Take for example this popular post by Justin Jackson Things I’ve Quit Doing At My Desk. He describes what he doesn’t let himself do at a desk. Thinking for example, and Facebooking. But that takes discipline, and the Fat Making App theory says that everything that takes a toll on your self-control depletes your cognitive resources. And that can’t be good for productivity!
So how can we be more productive? How can we make us do our best work we can? Stop thinking at our desks or letting a great deal of self control go?
I’m not sure about this, but some great things have come from me after a period of procrastinating. Both articles are a great read, but my mind boggles when I try to combine them in a Unified Theory of Productivity. It must be somehwere in between, maybe I figure it out after some Facebooking.
