How Choices Impact Your Mental Health
No one thrives when they’re backed into a corner
As a mental health counselor, I see Choice as one of the most impactful concepts in my work with clients. I have seen how acknowledging the choices we have within our experiences begins to offer a mental release that lends itself to an increase in well-being.
Confusing? Stick with me.
I get that Choice can feel like an abstract idea when it comes to mental health. It is not a tangible object that we can point to or a skill that I can give you a how-to guide to master. Instead, it is an exploration of thought and perspective that is open to an endless amount of interpretations and possibilities.
Choice is, well, full of choices.
When is Choice Necessary
Choices are a necessary element of the human condition. We need to feel like we have autonomy over aspects of our life in order to feel content and full-filled. Our most realized selves exist amongst places of autonomy — where we can explore what we want or need and why we want or need it.
