A flyer for a local race caught my eye.

The 10k race for charity was in 6 weeks.

It had been a few months since I had done any kind of rigorous walking/running. So, it was a perfect opportunity to jumpstart my outdoor running again.

But this time, instead of just going for walks around my neighborhood like I usually do, I decided to try Canada’s hottest fitness trend — Nordic walking.

I had seen people walking with poles before. I always found it a little silly.

I was willing to try it if it meant I could get a better workout.

I googled it immediately. The search results amazed me. Nordic walking was actually a walking technique developed in the early 1900s by a Finnish ski company.

Every source I read sang praises for this walking technique.

I was sold!
