At some point, I flat threw in the towel!

This simply wasn’t working. Writing for Medium hadn’t been a sprint. It hadn't even been a marathon. It’d been a thousand freaking sprints on the way to the marathon.

I’d been writing for Medium for about a year now. It seemed like ten.

It doesn’t help to see pink-haired

’s grinning mug on the homepage. Every. Single. Day. Tap-dancing on two or three thousand claps! And then there’s — taunting Shaunta — with her follow-me-to-my-Ninja-den smile on her face. I followed. Oh, yes, I followed. Under the cover of two separate email addresses, I followed.

I love you both, Shannon and Shaunta — along with the scores of others who have tirelessly served up their recipes for success here on Medium.

For me, it wasn’t enough, though.

Until last week. With my Medium renewal date tip-toeing toward me, I was already mentally cleaning out my drawers, packing up my laptop, and like those touching moments at the end of a long-running TV series, gazing longingly over my shoulder at my writing desk before…
