If you’ve been following my solopreneur journey, you probably know I’ve been running my online SEO writing business for a while now and steadily growing my website.

But here’s something you might not know: I’ve had more than a few failed attempts to build an email list.

Hard to believe, right?

You’d think it’s a simple task, probably easier than SEO. Yet, I’ve faced one flop after another.

And let me tell you why.

I’ve always treated my newsletter as a side project, hopping on the bandwagon because everyone else was doing it, and I wanted to see how it would play out for me.

Since March 2020, I’ve:

  • Switched email software three times
  • Deleted my email list and started from scratch multiple times
  • Constantly changed the concept to figure out how to deliver the most value

These constant pivots took a lot of my energy every week, especially since I could only spare 1–2 hours for my newsletter.

It’s tough to keep pushing on a project when you’re not seeing any results.
