7 Tweaks To Stand Out With Your GitHub Profile

As you might already know, visibility is crucial in the world of opportunities. The ones with fleshed-out LinkedIn profiles or popular Twitter accounts tend to receive more attention. For example, a LinkedIn profile with a summary gets up to 3.9 times as many profile views from recruiters compared to a profile without it. Thus, Having your profile on multiple platforms can be valuable from a career standpoint. One of these platforms is Github.

This post will show you how to update your Github profile to showcase your skills and make your profile stand out. Furthermore, having a clean landing page for your GitHub account is helpful, especially since recruiter and hiring managers do check any of your open source projects. However, this is not limited to those currently looking for a job. Having a clean profile is practical for connecting with interesting people who share the same interests.

The Basics

A user’s Github profile is the page you see when searching for a user using their user id. For example, mine is https://github.com/Am1n3e. The default profile contains a list of repositories and a contribution summary. However, Github lets you overwrite it by creating a special repository with the following characteristics:
