How To Nail Any Technical Interview Question
The best part is that you don’t have to prepare a lot
The one thing I have always dreaded when it comes to interviews has been technical questions. Although my degree is in computing, I have never studied programming. I have taught myself, starting when websites were built with frames. And throughout my career, I have never managed to finish reading a book about programming.
I much prefer learning by doing, following tutorials, or coming up with little side projects to explore a new technology. My very first interview for a professional development job was the most stressful experience. I still remember the questions fired at me:
- “What does Ajax stand for?”
- “Explain
Array.push
.” - “What is the difference between CSS2 and CSS3?”
I came out of there sweating buckets and feeling like it couldn’t have gone worse. I got angry with myself, as the answers started to form in my head as soon as I left the building.
To my surprise, I was invited for a second interview and hired at the back of it.
Today, I am the one asking these sorts of questions and I can understand a lot better why I was given a chance even though I blanked on many of the questions. It’s isn’t so…
