Week 1 Lineup

Welcome to the 2018 BSB season, everyone. I am very excited for what this year holds for us, primarily the fact that this will be Matt’s last season with us (congrats on getting married, bud). Shout out to Aaron for picking up the Owner’s Poll and to Max for doing the power rankings for this season. I’m hoping that this will allow me to put up some other content on the blog that everyone will enjoy reading. This season is shaping up to be potentially our most competitive yet. While I was uploading the schedule I realized that most games in any given week will probably have post season implications through the year. I can see the playoff picture not being finalized until the last few weeks of the season.

The greater level of competition this year leads me to believe that it will be fun to write a weekly preview of the league’s games. My vision for this article is that I will go through each game, give some background on the teams and make a prediction for the winner. I will also pick a game of the week for each week, which will be bolded when you look at the list of games. At the end of the article I will keep a running tab on my pick record throughout the season so we can see how good I actually am at that kind of thing.

Fookin Salamandas vs Oklahoma City Seahawks:

The first week of the season starts off strong with a rematch of one of last year’s semi-final matchups. Thomas has big shoes to fill as he takes over as owner of last year’s championship winning team. The Fookin Salamandas were in the conversation last year as a strong contender for winning it all before David Johnson got hurt. With Johnson healthy again, and not too many changes elsewhere the team is looking to bounce back. OKC Seahawks also have a player coming back off of injury, Odell Beckham. He’s going to lead a very strong receiving core this year. This matchup of the year is one that I would not be surprised to see happen again come playoff time.

Winner: Fookin Salamandas

Hubba Bubba Max vs. The Rolls-Royce Boys:

Our second game this week features one of the traditional “Big Four” of the league matching up against a team looking to fight for a playoff spot this year. Hubba Bubba Max made some of the biggest splashes this offseason, mainly giving up their two young stud running backs in return for Saquon Barkley. Giving up that running back depth means that this team is going to most likely be running four wide receiver lineups almost every week. The Rolls Royce Boys are two years removed from tanking for Fournette and are looking to make a repeat appearance in the playoffs. My biggest area of concern for this team is the wide receivers. It remains to be seen if any of them will become a true number one in fantasy this year.

Winner: Hubba Bubba Max

Meals on Wheels vs. Frank Lucas:

This game features the team looking to win one more game versus my dark horse playoff candidate for the year. Meals on Wheels was 14 points away from winning it all last year. The team had a very strong draft, thanks to having picks 2, 3, and 4. The biggest question mark for the team is how the receivers will perform. Amari Cooper has still not shown the output that had fantasy owners everywhere excited for him entering the league. Jarvis Landry needs to show that he can produce on the most dysfunctional team over the past two years. His opponent is coming off a year of tanking which led him to getting two good running backs in Mixon and Henry from Hubba Bubba Max. Again, the biggest question mark for this team is how the receivers will perform. While Frank Lucas is my pick for surprise playoff contender, I don’t think this season’s campaign will start off strong.

Winner: Meals on Wheels

Can You Diggslett? Vs. Kid Named Kid:

This is our first game of the year not featuring one of the “Big Four”. Kid Named Kid was probably the most surprising team to make the playoffs last year, squeaking in as the sixth seed. This team was bolstered by extremely strong defensive play, which will probably be need to be repeated if they want to make the playoffs again. Andrew Luck coming back will be a big help for the offensive side. Can You Diggslett is a team more notable for competing with The Rolls Royce Boys for loudest mouth than any actual accolades. The team is hoping to that more consistent running back play is enough to get them into the playoffs. If Jared Goff continues to grow and builds rapport with Brandin Cooks, he could be the MVP of this team.

Winner: Can You Diggslett?

Sherleeze vs. The Phoenix:

In competition for the biggest unofficial rivalry of the league, our last game of the week features the two owners that came in to the league at the same time. These teams were at drastically different states when the ownership turnover occurred. This may be the first year where The Phoenix ends higher than Sherleeze. In my opinion, The Phoenix has had the strongest drafting over the past two years, headlined by managing to grab both Kareem Hunt and Alvin Kamara. This gives the team one of the strongest running back cores in the league with two guys that were only rookies last year. Sherleeze is a team on the other end of the spectrum. Going by average age, this team may be the oldest in the league. Unless there are some surprise performances this season at multiple positions, it is hard to see this team making playoffs.

Winner: The Phoenix
