I always ask, Why is it so hard to change myself?

I seek outside inspiration that will make me move and take action. I was waiting for "something,” and that something never came.

Until I understand this…

It all started with me watching Mr. Jim Rohn’s clips on YouTube.

I was looking for an answer, and this was the answer I needed.

It’s just four words: Change starts with you.

“If you want things to change, you have to change. Don’t wait for change to happen externally. Change starts within. When you transform yourself, miraculously, your relationships, health, business, and everything else shifts around you. All change begins with you.”

“You must take personal responsibility. You cannot change the circumstances, the seasons, or the wind, but you can change yourself. That is something you have charge of. You don’t have charge of the constellations, but you do have charge of whether you read, develop new skills, and take new classes.”

“One of the best places to start to turn your life around is by doing whatever appears on your mental ‘I should’ list.”

“When you start changing how you think, how you act, how you treat others, how you treat yourself, when you start responding instead of reacting to life, life will start responding to you.”

“If you don’t design your own life plan, chances are you’ll fall into someone else’s plan. And guess what they may have planned for you? Not much.”

“Don’t join an easy crowd; you won’t grow. Go where the expectations and the demands to perform are high.”

— Jim Rohn

In a nutshell, start changing by first changing yourself.

Change starts with you. It starts with your mindset, how you react to things, and how you care for yourself.

My life changes when I understand this.

I first believe in myself that I can change. No one will come to save me. It’s on me.

And my journey began.

I used the resources that I had at my disposal and thought of ways to take advantage of them.

I learned to let go of my past because if I keep dwelling on it, it brings no good and only regrets and frustration that can affect my mental health and actions negatively.

I read. I executed. I practiced. I tried. I learned. And now I’m still learning and trying.

But one thing is different: I feel so much better than I was years ago.

How Do You Start Changing Yourself?

I don’t have all the answers to help you change yourself, but I have the things I did to change myself.

1. Read Non-Fiction Books.

I can’t argue more about reading books written by people who are already who you want to be and are living the life you desire.

My life changed when I started reading non-fiction books.

I love reading, but I only read novels back then on Wattpad. My reading list changed when I switched from reading fiction to non-fiction books.

The first non-fiction books I read were the book of Mr. Chinkee Tan, aka “Mr. Chink Positive” — A motivational speaker on money, mindset, and success.

Since then, I started reading Non-Fiction books written by successful people I want to learn from.

If you want to learn something from scratch, learn from the best.

2. Improve Your Fitness & Health.

I can’t stress this enough. How can you enjoy life when you don’t feel well? If you feel well, you’ll do better. So take care of yourself and your health.

3. Write a Journal Daily.

Every day, writing your thoughts and emotions clears up your mind from all the information you have stored in it from your day-to-day experience.

Write without judgment and fully immerse yourself in it.

At one point in my life, I was so lost to where I questioned myself. Why am I alive? What’s the purpose of living?

The thing that helps me at the lowest point of my life is writing in my journal.

Whenever I have something on my mind, I write it down. The only thing that accepts both my good and bad days is my journal. My journal is my haven.

4. Take Action.

Make sure you execute the things you learn so that you can adjust accordingly to which ones to keep doing and which ones to let go of and move on. Execution is the key to making progress. There’s no point in learning if you don’t take action.

5. Be Grateful.

Be grateful for what you have, what you don’t have, and what you can have.

Gratitude is something you must always remember to not take for granted the things that you have and the things that you can do to improve.

I am not saying to settle for less but to be grateful for what you have while working on having more.

“Success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines, practiced every day.” — Jim Rohn

If you want to make a change, start by changing yourself.

Your life is 100% your responsibility. Either you leave it to chance or take charge. Choose wisely.
