Paul the Octopus accurately predicted the winners of four out of six matches at the 2010 World Cup. Since then, a number of different animals have been conscripted into the prediction business, which helps bettors to make bets on different sport events.

During the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, Swiss guinea pig Madame Shiva and a British piranha named Pele were considered oracles, but apparently lacked the same foresight that made Paul a worldwide sensation.

This year the cat, named Achilles, is chosen to forecast winners of the World Cup in Russia. Achilles, a resident of the Hermitage museum in Saint Petersburg, is currently in full training mode, having special diet and exercises and, also, is studying all football teams participating in the world’s biggest football championship.

This cat is special, because he is absolutely unbiased, he’s deaf to any comments from the fans so he probably feels with his heart and a special cat sense. And as a habitant of Saint Petersburg he will be predicting only games taking place in his hometown.

“We went for Achilles because he is beautiful, first of all, but also because — like all white cats with blue eyes — he is deaf, so he has a great deal of intuition, he sees with his heart,” said Anna Kasatkina.

As all animal predictors Achilles will show his forecast through the food. So, whichever bowl with country’s flag Achilles eats from — that team will win.

The World Cup is to kick off tomorrow (June,14) and the first match at the Saint Petersburg Stadium will be between Morocco and Iran on 15th of June. We hope that Achilles will not be mistaken and bettors will win thanks to his forecasts.

Bettium will use a completely different, a more scientific and reliable approach, for sports events forecasting — AI-driven Big Data analysis. Will AI outperform animal oracles ? We’re most certain it will.
