Once in a blue moon, the boxing stars align and we get to witness history. In a sport known for so many missed opportunities, it’s rare to watch the fight everyone wants to see when we want to see it. In what is already called the fight of the decade, Wilder VS Fury 2 is the greatest boxing rivalry and rematch since the days of Tyson vs Holyfield.

For those of you who are not following, heavyweight boxing has woken up from a long winter into one of its great resurgences this past year. Make no mistake, you better wake up for this one because this fight is the reason why we fell in love with heavyweight boxing again, and so should you.

At the end of the day, stories make fights and this one is taken straight out of the Hollywood textbook. On the one side, we have Deontay Wilder, aka the Bronze Bomber, who is only now getting the recognition he deserves as the biggest knockout artist in boxing history. With 41 KOs and still undefeated, his story is truly inspiring when you consider he only started to box at 20 years of age to support his daughter’s struggle with autism and never looked back since.

Wilder has been on an unbelievable tear, using his godly power to knockout out every man they put in front of him until he faced the man they call the Gypsy King. Named after Mike Tyson at birth, it seems too good to be true that this prematurely born baby has grown up into a 6’9 (2.06) world heavyweight champion. Don’t let his goofy appearance fool you, Fury dances like a lightweight, got the moves like Jagger, and utilizes his awkward style along with superb boxing skills in ways we haven’t seen from the big boys of boxing.

With a big mouth to match his huge stature, the man looks and talks like a character from a Guy Ritchie movie and is without a doubt the most entertaining boxer on the planet. Everyone loves a good rise and fall story, especially when its followed by one of the most exciting comebacks in boxing history. The way he opened up and shared his struggles with suicidal depression, substance abuse and gaining over 100 pounds since retiring as world champion, really endeared him with fans all over the world.

It’s refreshing to see two real boxing showmen so engaged and committed to entertain and build up the fight for the fans. With 2 undefeated champions oozing with charm, confidence, great backstories and hype for days, it’s easy to see why their first fight got so much attention. And they delivered with one of the biggest fights in boxing’s history, a blockbuster filled with drama, controversy, and a bonkers ending.

Monumental fight and a boxing betting nightmare.

It was a classic mouse and cat game with Wilder consistently head hunting for that one haymaker while Fury just casually ducking under with his famous herky-jerky style. As the fight got longer, Wilder got more desperate and frustrated as Fury never lost the grin on his face, continued to trash talk, put his hands behind his back and took pleasure in taunting him. It wasn’t until the 9th round when we got a glimpse of that freak power as Wilder connected and dropped Fury.

It was the first chink in Fury’s armor but he brushed it off as he continued to dominate up until the 12th and final round. That last round has since become iconic in boxing history and another embodiment of Wilder’s famous quote — “They have to be perfect for 12 rounds, I only have to be perfect for 2 seconds”. When Wilder finally caught him with that big right-hand everything changed, Fury dropped, his head bounced off the canvas, eyes rolled to the back of his head and that’s all she wrote.

No one could predict what would happen next (Getty image).

The judge was about to count to 10, the crowd was ecstatic and Wilder was already celebrating as there was simply no coming back this time. But he did, Fury rose in a miraculous fashion with a smile on his face and went on to outbox Wilder until the last bell rang.

Many claim that Fury was robbed out of a clear victory, others are convinced that Fury never got up in time but there was just no better ending than that rare draw decision. Both fighters were hugging after as they seemed to realize the magnitude of the battle they shared together. It was the perfect set up for the rematch and the inevitable day those two will face each other again. On the 22nd of February, that day will come.
