Animation Fundamentals: Duck Amuck

From about 0:03–0:11, we get a slow in and out wherein Daffy comes into frame, slows his body as he prepares to duel, and then rapidly parries against his expected opinion. When Daffy sees no one, his body slows again, as he looks around, confused.

This moment also doubles for anticipation, as Daffy’s movement while monologuing about his wish for a duel serves as preparation for the parrying he’s about to do. This appears to play out from 0:02–0:05.

We even get a bit of overlapping action from about 0:05–0:06, wherein Daffy drags his left foot up to his right ankle in anticipation of dueling his opponent. Which makes the sequence an altogether remarkable little sample of animation from a famously remarkable short.
