Animation Fundamentals: ‘Murica

Alright guys get the comments rolling on “ Ha a TF2 animation? The’re a dime a dozen” and what not, when I was a young teen when ever i wanted something cartoony and over the top in terms of crazy this is the video i went to. So I thought with such exaggerations it wouldn’t be a bad place to look for the principles of Animation.

“Embrace democracy, or you will be eradicated”-Liberty Prime

Right off the the bat the characters strike a pose the basically sets 50% of the mood of patriotism only lacking the other 50% of the mood of the video whitch is crude aggression. This opening shot is almost literally setting the stage for the rest of the video and goes hand in hand with the principle of staging. This pose says “ I hold something in deep reverence” along with the lyrics and setting it translates to “ I hold deep reverence for America”, it is a strong pose that reflects the primary ground work of what this video is based on although it may not seem that way later on in the video. Despite the shenanigans and insanity these character show later they are based on the idea that they love Murica. Thats why I think that this pose is a perfect example of staging for the animation.

These series of images are the perfect exemple of exaggeration using a long dramatic turn and an expresstion that gets increasingly intense. You can even see the contrasting differences between the same motion vs the timing it takes to acieve the action with the man on the left just quickly cranes his neck quick towards the camera while the man on the left takes up many more frmaes to achieve the same action. It show the difference between an action and an exaggerated action.

Now for the spicy but romantic lean in kiss the way he slowly turns his head… closes his eyes and puckers his lips….and leans in for a kiss….IS a perfect example of Anticipation all these little yet importent movements led to a leaning in kiss (or an attempt at one anyways).
