Spellbound is a 2016 short film produced by Ringling College of Art and Design about a girl who dislikes her sister but soon realizes her mistakes.

Squash & Stretch Example

Squash & Stretch:

An animation fundamental that was exhibited well was the use of the squash & stretch method. The main antagonists in the story were black blobs that wreaked havoc in the bedroom the two sisters shared. When the blobs jumped, they would stretch, return to their normal shape, stretch again when falling back down, then would squish upon impact with the solid ground.

Anticipation:

Anticipation Example

For this animation fundamental, it exhibits the use of anticipation due to the way Rene (the girl in blue), becomes emotional when seeing her sister after beating the giant blob. She leaps up from being crouched on the ground and slightly stumbles until she does a small jump into her sister’s arms and embraces her.

Exaggeration Example

Exaggeration:

Lastly, this scene where the evil blob is in pain is a fine example of exaggeration. This action is taken to the next level where it increases the amount of impact to the viewer. Since this motion is quick, the exaggeration needed to be bigger in order for it to be noticed. It becomes more realistic as the blob flails around in every direction to emphasize the pain it is in.
