Animation Fundementals: Lovegirl
Lovegirl is a short animated student film by Amelia Allore which tells a cute tale of a girl unexpectedly falling in love, and trying her hardest to get the other girl’s attention. The animation style in this clip is well done and covers many of the animation principles, including squash and stretch, anticipation, and exaggeration.
One example of squash and stretch in this clip is found towards the beginning, when the girl first lays eyes on her love interest. When she sees her, her frame squishes down for a second before popping back up. This makes the character feel more bouncy, and shows how sudden this feeling hits her.

later on, anticipation is seen when the character pulls back a bow with a bouquet replacing the arrow. When she is pulling back the bow, there is an extra shot of her stretching the string. This strengthens the illusion of the tightness of the string, and makes the movement feel more realistic due to building up energy.

Lastly, exaggeration is significantly seen throughout the piece, in the characters reactions, as well as the over dramatic flowery backgrounds that occur to symbolize the character’s immediate attraction. This is especially seen towards the end, when the main character falls out her window, and the two characters finally meet. The reactions and poses both characters make while the lead is falling are both over dramatic, and then the over the top background surrounding them only adds to the love at first sight idea.

Overall, this animation is very well done. Is a very cute and funny approach to romance that is animated in a simple yet very affective way.
