This is another short from the school GOBELINS. I think I might have found a source of all things wonderful. I have watched a few animations from this school, and each animation is as unique as the one preceding it. DUO is the story of two women, who are performing for the last time together. The saying “everything is not as it seems” mirrors the relationship between the women on and off stage. This particular short, showcases many of the 12 principles of animation. The three I focused on were overlapping, staging, and appeal.

Theses shot are taken from 1:10–1:22, the use of overlapping is present throughout this entire sequence. The red fabic takes on a mind of its own, as it follows the acrobats.

The staging is continuously presented during the length of the short, by the use of dialogue, music, and actions between the two women. One scene that encompasses all these elements is at the peak of the story. From 1:40 to the conclusion you can see how everything links together.

The appeal of this animation is very easy on the eyes. Character design is very simple, the basic shapes of triangles and circles can be seen. The cool colors represent the balance between the duo. While the warm colors represent the tension, within the relationship.
