The Association Internationale du Film d’Animation, or ASIFA, is an international animation society that was founded in 1960 in Annecy, France. They have over 30 chapters worldwide, one being ASIFA South which is located in Atlanta, Georgia. About one year ago, they had a podcast that interviewed one entrepreneur named Allyssa A. Lewis.

Allyssa A. Lewis is an animator, recruiter, and consultant known for working on FX’s Emmy winning series “Archer”. She has now founded her own animation resource and staffing agency called My Animation Life (MAL). It’s her job to search for young and new animators, connect them with other people, and guide them in the right direction of animation. One of the methods that Lewis has done is bring animators from different studios to talk to students. Doing so allows her to listen to what they have to say, while also teaching students about the life of animation.

One of the things I learned is how people can overcome a work hiatus, as she says. Firstly, Lewis says that the main steps to success are as follows: Assess what you have, know where you want to go, and think about the paths to get there. She also says that there are roundabout ways to success. Secondly, people go on hiatus because they are scared of learning too much and not having enough time to learn it. Lewis says that if you learn the right thing, you’ll have all the time in the world. Lastly, she says don’t brand yourself as the company you work at, be yourself. These words I find inspiring in my pursuit of game design.
