Ryan Hoover is an incredible artist. He is an interdisciplinary artist and a research professor in MICA. I was completely amazed to see the methods of his art. He is one of the few artists to work along the lines between science and art. He works alongside a team at the Baltimore Underground Science Space. His works vastly involve using a 3D printing tool called Xylinus. I was really interested in his work “Arborescent Algorithms” During the talk, Ryan goes on to talk about how he came across the idea to start the project. During one of his walks he came across a tree and thought about whether he would be able to program the tree. That was exactly what started his motivation to pursue this project. The end results were beautiful, unique trees. I had never heard of someone using organic materials to 3D print. It was so amazing to see how he actually was able to transform these materials into intricate art.

Animation is a field where we are able to bring life to our work. Similarly, Ryan Hoover uses organic materials to bring life to his art. Throughout his works, Ryan Hoover never let anything block him. He simply starts with an idea and then did what was necessary in order to accomplish it. He created tools that would help him achieve his goals. Honestly, that was just inspiring. He never stopped because of a roadblock. I think in the future I’m going to pursue my ideas more instead of putting it on hold because of a roadblock.
