Matt Stone and Trey Parker are the two animators behind “South Park” which is a well known adult cartoon, that has been on Comedy Central for nearly two decades. In the beginning, they used construction paper cut-outs to make the characters and background which resulted in a crudely produced stop motion animation. The animation is intentionally sloppy which I think, in this case, adds an extra layer of comedy to the show. Although the animation is choppy and technically bad, this style was innovative at the time as there was nothing like it on television. The voice acting and sound design is just as ametuer. You can tell that many of the characters are just voiced by the same actor but the concept of these four poorly drawn 4th graders cursing and dealing with ridiculous scenarios is just too good for the production quality to matter. The story line for a lot of the episodes usually revolves around some sort of current event or moral/social dilemma. This I think is the redeeming quality in what would otherwise just be a crummy cartoon filled with fart jokes. The show uses crude humor and animation to makes sometimes brilliant points. Overall Matt and Trey have been a huge influence on me and I hope I can make a cartoon half as good in the future.
