Promoting Good Animation: KAIROS
KAIROS is a trailer for a french comic of the same name created by Ulysse Malassagne. Studio La Cachette were responsible for the animated trailer which brings the characters and world to life in the short two minute run. The studio itself was founded in 2013 between Malassagne and a few of his friends that he made while at school. Since then they have done work for major film studios such as Disney and Illumation. However KAIROS was one of their first pieces of animation.

One of the things that really help KAIROS to stand out almost immediately is the linework. The lines on the characters are varied and loose. they often don’t completely connect with each other and have the color finish the connection. These loose and varied lines are great in motion as they change to fit the action. For example, when our red caped hero is running and jumping across a sea of dragons you can the lines thicker as the action ramps up. The backgrounds also uses lines quite well with their crosshatching. You can see them in almost all of the buildings featured in the teaser expect for nature shots. It helps the world feel lived in, have history, and not look like everything was just made. Lastly I would to comment on the fact that not only does the trailer feature fluid animation, fun designs, and fitting music but also is able convey the overall story all with visuals. It easily estabilshes the overall conflict of the book along with setting and characters in only two minutes. I have the highest praise for Studio La Cachette for accomplishing these feats just as they were starting out.
