On Wednesday October 24th, I attended the artist presentation of artist, Iman Djouini. She discussed with us on how her work is on a researched basis and how fascinated she in reading book. Her main focus was to read and figure out how colors relate to each other. For example, she has observed the styles of Northern African textiles and incorporated that into her art. Creating art pieces like front to back silk screen printed sheets. The process behind creating that is basically burning an image through a mesh.

When it comes to her becoming an entrepreneur, she would work with others to create elaborate projects. Her group created an inflatable elephant art piece and used social media to create publicity for the project. They went as far as to create a hashtag on social media named #theelephantintheroom which I thought was a smart approach to get people to become curious about the project. Iman also mentioned how much planning goes into creating such art. They wanted to make sure that it was right time to display the elephant seeing that a Republican president was just elected and didn’t want the elephant to represent anything negative. But mainly they didn’t want to create artwork that explains itself.

I learned that when taking on the career of an entrepreneur, its best to do some networking, especially. when it comes to art. The fact she worked with a group of people made me feel that you can get much more done that way than working alone. Taking time out to do some research if you’re creating are that is representing a certain theme. Taking that kind of approach can prepare you for the hard work that is expected and make the end result satisfying if executed successfully.
