Please enjoy this week’s roundup of articles, videos, podcasts, and other gems from the Burnerverse and beyond.

Burning Man in the World

Summer solstice has special meaning around these parts, not least because it’s Burning Man’s birthday. To celebrate and honor our late founder Larry Harvey, there’s a plethora of activities planned for this weekend, including the global online premiere of “Larry: A Burning Man Story” by Profiles in Dust.

To commemorate the man we knew, loved, and miss every single day, here is a 1994 interview with Larry, uncovered on an inactive Burning Man archive on Zpub.

Rob Smith, a filmmaker from New York, wrote this profound (and funny) letter to the Burning Man community about race and racism on playa.

What’s up with virtual Black Rock City? Burning Man Project CEO Marian Goodell shared the latest and how you can get involved in the Multiverse. In fact, ‘Build Week’ starts now.

The temptation to head to the playa this summer may be huge, but just don’t do it! Read on about the impact on the local communities and other things to consider.

The bells and whistles we developed with Black Rock City were amazing, but they were never the point. We can see that now, says Caveat, who explores WTF Burning Man culture is right now.

The Playlist

Episode 4 of the Burning Man Live podcast is a must-hear for sheer inspiration and entertainment. Meet The Midnight Gospel’s Duncan Trussell.

Photographer De Lisa Carol interviewed Burner Erin Douglas (also a photographer) about Black representation at Burning Man. (Plus, the wanderlust will be real after listening in.)

Here’s a joyful little ditty from the PlayaPops Symphony.

Also Noteworthy

Art cars Movement of Jah People and Big Willy Jeep were part of a march to the capitol in Phoenix.

Sparkling with 2,700 LED nodes of pink light, San Francisco’s Pink Triangle will cover a full acre and be a thing to behold. Naturally, Burners have a few things to do with this! Read on to see how you can get involved.

Here’s a longread about the history of our favorite mode of transport.

Artists Alex and Allyson Grey recently offered a virtual tour of their home studio.

Turning trash into trolls? Yes, please! We’d love to see Thomas Dambo on the playa.

Could this be the future of Burning Man wear?

And now for the mic drop: Toto’s “Africa” played on Tesla coils. Until next time. xo
