Welcome to “Sunday Reads,” a new curated collection of articles, videos, and podcasts that speak to our global community, culture, and principles. It was conceived when weekends were still a thing, as a kind of ‘Sunday paper’ for the creative/maker/fun-loving set.

Now that COVID-19 has blown up our routines and set the world on a different course, the concept may already be antiquated, but the intention is not. Each collection serves as a shortcut to some of the most interesting and enjoyable media published recently in our universe. We hope it helps you cut through the noise of what to read, watch, and listen to each week so that you can emerge a stronger, more informed citizen of this incredible network of networks.

Burning Man in the World

Lives are on hold everywhere, but Burners are mobilizing to donate and distribute clean, unused masks and protective equipment to hospitals in need. Plus, our culture cannot be stopped; it’s just moving online with all manner of gatherings and shenanigans.

The Playlist

Black Rock City hosts the largest Leave No Trace event in the world. The latest Profiles in Dust video tells the story of that process before, during and after the 2019 event.

“Burners are always ready for the Apocalypse,” says The Intersection podcast host David Boyer. He’s collecting voice-memos for how this “community of MacGyvers” is contending with these times. Listen in to see how to participate.

There’s nothing like a playa set to transport oneself to another, more playful time. Muloka’s done all the hard work of compiling a gazillion of them from 2019. Here they are, in two playlists.

Also Noteworthy

COVID-19 is showing us that when humanity is united in common cause, phenomenally rapid change is possible, writes Charles Eisenstein.

Here’s a booklist from our friends Esalen to help you find spacious stillness and be in the moment.

Jaime Amor’s “Cosmic Kids” videos were born from her trip to Black Rock City. Now they’re helping restless kids (and parents) stuck at home.

Artists HYBYCOZO (they designed the Man Base in 2019 among other pieces) have designed a downloadable coloring book of their intricate geometric designs.
