11/28 — Getting Back Into It

It’s been too long since I’ve written something (personal) on Medium — almost two months, in fact. Long enough that I now feel like an imposter when I see the word “writer” next to my name on my website. Long enough that I feel as though I can’t speak to the benefits of writing, tell people I write on Medium and LinkedIn, or even have it as a project on my resume.

But I still do, because I know that when I need it the most, and even when I don’t, I can always write. This semester (the past 3 months, for those who have made it into the real world) passed by insanely quickly.

Web development became my “writing” for the semester. Instead of writing every day, I spent the majority of my hours outside academia building web applications or sites. In fact, I haven’t gone more than two days without making a commit to one of my GitHub repositories.

I love how much I’ve realized my future in software engineering and especially web development, but it feels as though most of my has been for self-improvement. It doesn’t have the same feel of reaching other people and helping other people as does writing.

And so I want to get back into it. If my goal in life is to help as many people as possible, I need to start doing that — and the best way I can do so right now is through my writing. I can write about my life, my experiences developing software and web apps, my thoughts on products and features, and more.

It’s a bit tough to get myself to do so. Even in writing this post, I feel rusty in explaining my thoughts or structuring my sentences.

But it’s just my first step forward in a project — an enormous project that I will carry out into the next semester and beyond. I’m happy I’m here right now, typing this under my comforter past midnight. I’m ready for this challenge. I’m ready for the stress of putting myself out there, the therapeutic vibes of getting these thoughts out of my head, the acts of support from readers, and the path forward.

It’s been a while, but I’m back!
