Concord, CA (December 7, 2015)Beyond Lucid Technologies, the award-winning firm behind the MEDIVIEW™ platform electronic patient care record (ePCR) system and Prehospital Health Information Exchange, today announced that on November 24, 2015, MEDIVIEW™ became the first and only software serving the EMS industry to achieve compliance with version 3 of the National EMS Information System (NEMSIS) — the latest prehospital regulatory standard — and to demonstrate the ability to export a Continuity of Care Document (CCD) in real-time.

Real-time CCD export from a prehospital care record is critical to centralizing the role of EMS in the modern health care continuum, because CCD is a principal format used by hospitals, nursing facilities, pharmacies, and physicians’ offices to share data among their electronic health records.

Beyond Lucid Technologies built CCD export capability into MEDIVIEW™ with generous support from the California Health Care Foundation in its mission to advance Community Paramedicine and interoperability with care facilities. The interface necessary to export CCD from a NEMSIS v3 ePCR will be available to all subscribers, beginning with the release of MEDIVIEW™ 2016.

To care facilities that receive patients via ambulance, real-time and interoperable prehospital data offers important clinical, operational, and financial benefits, including: the ability to pre-register patients before they arrive at the emergency department, more efficient activation of triage teams, post-discharge follow-up for patient tracking and readmission prevention, outcomes reporting, and distribution of alerts to physicians and even family members.

MEDIVIEW™ 2016’s ability to extract a CCD from the prehospital record underscores Beyond Lucid Technologies’s commitment to the free flow of prehospital data, a mantra that was inspired by AthenaHealth and Cerner, two EHR firms that co-founded CommonWell Health Alliance, a group of health IT and service organizations using a common patient ID to exchange data across the care continuum. Beyond Lucid Technologies is the first EMS-facing member of CommonWell.

Jonathon Feit, Co-Founder & CEO of Beyond Lucid Technologies, said: “We were proud to showcase the EMS industry’s first export of CCD from NEMSIS v3 in Alameda County, California, where MEDIVIEW™ is helping to avoid readmissions and track frequent users of EMS services. Our industry has long sought the Holy Grail of shareable prehospital data, but rarely have EMS technology firms actually proven their claims to facilitate real-time data exchange. We are thrilled to have done so. Our next step is to advance Community Paramedicine / Mobile Integrated Health nationwide by combining patient charting and telemedicine with a sustainable business model.”
