Joplin in the Terminal — Markdown on Linux
Note-Taking With Markdown on the Terminal
This was a rather unfamiliar feature to me. I installed Joplin via the terminal. There is an AppImage free for download. However, I always avoid AppImages, as they do not get properly integrated into the applications list. Plus, you can’t quickly search for them.
So instead, I chose snap install joplin. And what I got was not really what I expected.
After the installation was done, I encountered the first problem. Where is Joplin? The applications list was empty. A search yielded no results. So, like every good Linux user, I tended to the almighty terminal.
I typed in joplin, and instead of a new window popping up, the terminal transformed. A Vim-styled interface appeared with three columns. With mb, I could create a new notebook, and mn made a new note appear. Upon entering, the typical Vim interface appeared with its ~-sign in every new line.
And you will feel right at home. The keys hjkl will help you navigate through your text if you are not in the insert mode, which you can toggle by hitting the i-key. With the insert mode, you can write your text.
