Mulatu Astatke And Beyond
We were asked by Ethiopian Records if we could spread the word about their running crowdfunding campaign ‘WEL’ in order to release a double EP, produce some videos and more. To not only support contemporary Ethiopian artists, but to give them a chance to survive in pandemic times. Yes, we can and we wish you good luck!
And that was a reminder for us at Beyond Tape that there is way more then the (very great) and widely known Mulatu Astatke, who made Ethio-Jazz widely popular and which some people surely know — for example from the Broken Flowers soundtrack. So we browsed our minds and playlists and put together some tracks from Ethiopia that include and go beyond Ethio-Jazz.
As we don’t know any tool actually to combine Bandcamp und Youtube-Videos in a playlist (playmoss unfortunatelly ceased its activity) we like to drop the songs just down below. We also added a Spotify-Playlist on the bottom, knowing that it is a) not a supporting platform for artists and b) doesn‘t have all the songs listed.
Let’s get started with the music and please check out and support ‘WEL’, thank you!
