Beyond the Block is Accepting Submissions

Beyond the Block is now accepting submissions for its online publication. We accept essays, poems, short stories, and other short-form creative writing. We only accept writing from currently incarcerated or imprisoned people, though subject matter is not restricted to incarceration or imprisonment.

*We are unable to return submissions to sender, so please do not mail us your only copy. At this time we do not have the capacity to respond to all submissions.

Submission parameters:
Poetry: up to 5 poems
All other forms: up to 10 pages

Please include in your submission the name you wish to be posted with your writing. Some acceptable examples include:

Carceral facilities will not be identified on the site, but you are able to include something general like “A. Jones is serving a life sentence in a maximum security facility in Arizona,” if you wish.

Beyond the Block at this time does not receive any funding and cannot compensate writers. Regarding Intellectual and distribution rights, Beyond the Block retains First North American Serial Rights while all other rights revert to the author. Submissions are open year-round.
