Jason Martin and Miguel Vargas ranked among the Pacific Coast League’s elite players throughout the 2022 season with eye-popping statistics and performances on the baseball field for the Oklahoma City Dodgers.

Minor League Baseball recently announced league awards and all-star teams for the two leagues that make up Triple-A level — the Pacific Coast League, in which the OKC Dodgers play, as well as the International League. Votes were cast by league managers.

Martin, 27, was one of three outfielders and 12 total players named to the PCL All-Star Team.

Vargas, who turns 23 years old tomorrow, was named the PCL’s Top MLB Prospect.

Martin quickly made an impact on Dodgers fans by hitting a game-winning walk-off home run in the team’s season opener April 5 against Albuquerque. He finished the year among the PCL’s top statistical leaders and made multiple entries into the team record books.

Martin, from Corona, Calif., led all Triple-A players with 107 RBI and tied for the PCL lead with 32 home runs.

The 5-foot, 9-inch, 185-pound outfielder set a Bricktown-era team record (since 1998) for most RBI by an OKC player during a single season. He hit the most home runs in an OKC season since 2012 and the third-most homers in a single season for OKC since current franchise records began in 1998.

Martin became the first OKC player with at least 30 homers and 100 RBI in a season since 1993.

The left-handed hitter led the league with 62 extra-base hits and 265 total bases. He tied for first with 100 runs scored while ranking second with a .938 OPS and fourth with a .564 slugging percentage.

Martin led the Dodgers with 134 hits. He had a team-leading four multi-homer games and hit one of the team’s seven grand slams.

Martin, who signed with the Dodgers as a free agent in November 2021, also finished the season ranked among PCL leaders in hits (5th, 134), walks (7th, 68), AVG (8th, .285) and OBP (9th, .374).

He paced OKC with 28 multi-RBI games and tied Vargas for a team-high 39 multi-hit games.

Martin and Vargas’ 100 runs scored apiece tied for the PCL lead. They also tied for the most runs scored in an OKC season since 2005 and the third-most by an OKC player since 1998.

Vargas was one of the league’s most consistent performers throughout the 2022 season.

The Los Angeles Dodgers’ No. 3 prospect, as ranked by MLB Pipeline, played in the July SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game and went on to make his Major League debut with the Los Angeles Dodgers in August.

Prior to traveling to Los Angeles for the Futures Game, Vargas played in 85 of OKC’s first 87 games of the season. He collected his PCL-leading 100th hit July 14, becoming one of nine players in the Minors to reach the milestone by mid-July.

The 6-foot, 3-inch, 205-pound infielder remained on the MLB roster following a September call-up, and despite not playing a PCL game during the final month of the Triple-A season, finished second among PCL qualified hitters with both a .304 batting average and .404 on-base percentage. He ranked third with a .915 OPS.

His 32 doubles finished tied for third in the league, while his 71 walks tied for fifth. His 224 total bases finished sixth, while his 133 hits were seventh, his 53 extra-base hits tied for seventh and his 82 RBI tied for eighth.

Vargas, a right-handed hitter from Havana, Cuba, connected on a walk-off two-run homer to lead off the 10th inning of an OKC win July 29 against Sugar Land.

He put together two separate 14-game hitting streaks from June 17-July 2 and Aug. 13–28, which tied for the longest hitting streak by an OKC player in 2022 and the longest since 2019. He had three hitting streaks of at least 10 games during the season.

He scored a run in a league-best 13 straight games April 28-May 12.

He played the majority of the season at third base, but also played 23 games in left field.
