Accolades keep rolling in for the OKC Dodgers pitching staff this season.

John Rooney was named PCL Pitcher of the Week for Sept. 12–17, Minor League Baseball announced Monday.

Over his three relief outings last week against Tacoma, Rooney pitched a combined 5.2 scoreless and hitless innings.

The 26-year-old, left-handed pitcher did not allow a walk and had seven strikeouts while retiring 16 of 17 batters faced, with the only batter not retired reaching on an error.

Rooney is the fourth straight Dodger to win the league’s Pitcher of the Week Award and won the team’s seventh league pitching honor in the last eight weeks.

Over his last 10 games, the 6-foot, 5-inch tall, 215-pounder has allowed one run and four hits across 16.2 IP, holding opponents 4-for-53 (.075).

Rooney, from Melrose, N.Y., joined the OKC Dodgers July 5 from Double-A Tulsa for his first career Triple-A action.

He made 29 relief appearances with Tulsa, going 3–2 with three saves, a 2.38 ERA as well as nine walks against 37 strikeouts over 34.0 innings pitched. At the time of his promotion to OKC July 5, he led the Drillers in appearances and ranked second in the Texas League with 29 games.

Rooney led the Minors in 2022 with 17 pickoffs and recorded a combined 23 pickoffs in 2019 with Low-A Great Lakes and High-A Rancho Cucamonga.

He began his professional career in 2018 after he selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the third round of the 2018 MLB Draft out of Hofstra University.
