Six home runs. Fourteen RBI. And that was just part of Trey Sweeney’s impressive week at the plate in Albuquerque.

On Monday, Minor League Baseball named Sweeney PCL Player of the Week following his breakout series at Isotopes Park.

Sweeney hit six home runs and had 14 RBI over six games in Albuquerque last week. He went 11-for-28 (.393) and scored 10 runs, while leading the Minors with six homers, eight extra-base hits and 32 total bases May 28-June 2.

On Sunday at Isotopes Park, Sweeney hit two home runs, racked up a game-high five RBI and scored three runs for his second multi-homer game of the season, second multi-homer game of the series and OKC’s seventh overall multi-homer game of 2024. Sunday marked his team-best third game of the season with five RBI and second five-RBI outing of the series, tying his career-high mark.

Sweeney, from Louisville, Ky., hit three home runs Wednesday in Albuquerque and his two multi-homer outings in the series were the first of his career. In that game, he went 4-for-4 with five RBI, becoming the first OKC player with three homers in a game since July 23, 2021 when Keibert Ruiz did so against Sugar Land. Sweeney’s first home run of the night was an inside-the-park homer — the team’s first since July 23, 2022 (Jason Martin vs. Sacramento). The four hits tied his career high game total.

Sweeney, 24, has now hit safely in a season-best 11 games, going 17-for-48 (.354) with seven homers, two doubles, a triple, 17 RBI and 15 runs scored. He owns the longest active hitting streak by an OKC player and third-longest active hitting streak in the league. It is the second-longest of the season by an OKC player behind Jonathan Araúz’s 17-game streak in April.

Sweeney last hit safely in 11 straight games with Double-A Somerset last season July 16–28. He also had a hitting streak of 12 games June 2–15 last season with Somerset, which was the longest hitting streak on the team in 2023 and stands as Sweeney’s career-long hitting streak.

The 6-foot, 2-inch, 212-pound Sweeney was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers Dec. 11 , 2023 from the New York Yankees in exchange for Victor González and Jorbit Vivas.

He is in his fourth professional season and first with the Dodgers ranked as the №16 Los Angeles prospect by Baseball America and №22 by MLB Pipeline. He was originally selected by the Yankees in the first round (20th overall) of the 2021 MLB Draft out of Eastern Illinois University.

He joins outfielder Ryan Ward as the first two OKC players to receive weekly league honors so far this season. Ward was named PCL Player of the Week for April 23–28.
